Re: Gears?

With 38" tires I'd go with 4.56s or 4.30s.

I run 38" tires and run 4.56 gears, love the combo. Drives great, keeps the truck in the powerband and lowered my EGTs.

Re: Gears?

I'd do the 4.56's. I was planning on 37's down the road, so i put in 4.56's to prepare for it, however now i wanna go fast, and damn my truck's geared low.

Chris-
I run 430s w/ my 38s. It cruises great and is fine around town. For towing, go w/ 456s.

Re: Gears?

hmmm weird, i went up to a 37" tire and went up to a 3.73 gear set. the truck drives a whole lot better at 70 now, just under 2k rpm

Re: Gears?

With the ZF-5?

Yeah, you can control what gear you are in.

38s and 3.73s with the 4r100 sucked big time, IMO.

Re: Gears?

I tow a 13k trailer all over the place and the 4.56 on 37"'s SUCK. On the freeway for fuel economy in a superduty you need to keep it under 2000rpm. By doing this you are only able to run 63mph. If I where to do it all over again I would but 4.30 or 4.11 in it. I like to pull at 70mph. If I tow right now with 4.56's my fuel mile drops exactly 1.6mpg. the truck is running at 2250rpm.

2002 F350 DRW, 38r Turbo, Terminator T500, REG return fuel system, CTS Evo Custom tuned by Bill at Powerhungry Performance, bts converter, S&B intake, Snows Stage 3 Water/Meth. Mcculloch hids 6k.
