Modifying split shot injectors?

Can you have the intensifier piston machined down to achieve more cc's like the single shots? I just did another set of 160cc injectors on a OBS and was asked this question. Why does everyone go to the single shots and what needs changed on the split shot injectors to make them singles?

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

The P&B's are different and make them single shots. Yes, machining the intensifier piston will give you more cc's, but your injectors will require more high pressure oil to function properly. This is info I have learned from Jim Rose.

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

So if I had a set of P&B's out of a single shot injector,(which I do) I could have the pistons machined like normal and put in the single shot p&B?

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

a stock ad injector can be made into a single with the changes you describe but why not go ahead and go with a 530 plunger and barrel set and make hybrids?

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

I did a set of hybrids (DIY) and have some stock single shot P&B left over.

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

If you have the piston out of an ab or ad split you dont need to cut the pistons, just put single shot p&b's in and you have your stage ones.

Re: Modifying split shot injectors?

1) You cannot use an AD Piston for anything other than an AD injector. You cannot use it with any single shot P&B including the 530's. You can only do very minor machining to the AD Piston to get a small increase in fuel from them, usually not worth the trouble, that's why a lot of guys convert to Singles. The split shot timing is very touchy and you generally do not want to mess with the Piston length.
2) You can use AB or AC Pistons without machining with a Single Shot P&B, including the 530's.
3) When you convert a AD into an AA you must replace the AD PIston, too. See 1) above...
