Lowering CR, Has anyone tried...

Removing the lip completely off the top of the bowl, like the cummins and various other engines. And what size bowl is needed for 16:1 and 15:1 compression ratio's.

Have not tried it, you can remove enough material to get to 15-16:1 without changing the swirl characteristics of the bowl.

CC's removed from the bowl to get to 15:1 or 16:1 will change depending on your quench distance, head gasket kit used, valve recession and relief work, it will be between 8-12cc which is why you need to measure all the other variables before cutting the pistons, or stick to a known combination.

Everything is going to be stock on this engine at least as far as deck height, gaskets, recession and no reliefs in the pistons with the stock cam.

You mean like this:

Just cleaned the lip of the bowl off, added valve reliefs and coated them.

I don't have my paperwork handy, but you'll still have decent compression doing that, mine is a bit different than what someone would have with the rest left stock, because of alterations I had done to the heads, valves, and the specific clearances I set the motor up for.

HRT - what is the company that coated your crowns? And what specifically do they call the coating - temp rating? Over the years I have seen many ceramic crown coatings and they all have a different color, from almost clear on some to a dark brown even more than those you have shown.

I'll find out which company coated them. I handed them to a machinist/diesel truck buddy of mine and he cut them the way I wanted and sent them out to the same place where he gets all of his stuff coated for his super street/mod truck.
