Plug sealant help

Just wanted to advise people not to use liquid thread sealant, or at least the type i got. I got the truck running today and traced the problem down to a plug on the back of the block leaking, that requires dropping the tranny, removing the flex plate/rear main seal plate to get to it...

Just wondering if you all just use teflon tape, or something else to seal these plugs up goo... TIA

Re: Plug sealant help

I use teflon tape to prevent having dope get in and plug things up.

I use paste a lot with no issues. I have issues with tape turning to goo.

Re: Plug sealant help

I am hoping for the better, there's oil leaking somewhere between the back of the engine and the TC, getting moved all around inside the bellhousing, isn't coming from up top at the valley drain hole. Ill drop the tranny tomorrow and investigate, hoping for the best.

Re: Plug sealant help

I use teflon paste that the steam fitters use. Never had an issue yet, I use it on everything from the oil system to the fuel system. Never had a leak with this stuff.

Can you get this stuff at the local hardware store or have to get it from a specialty place? Is it marked specifically for steam?

Re: Plug sealant help

I will get the name of the stuff when I get home from work tomorrow. I get it from my local Ace hardware but most call it a speciality store, it has a little of everything.
