Intercooler???????/

I am trying to figure out how to get an intercooler on my van. I want to put one where the original grill is and hopefully overlay it with one of the billet offerings. But it will have to be radiused......

I have been emailing back and forth with the tech guy at bell intercoolers. To make a long story short, he says a 3.5" core, cross flow, 11" tall, and 28" wide is just enough. But that won't work for me because it needs to be "radiused" to fit the contour of the front of the van.

So will 3 cores work in this instance? Here is what I had in mind. This is drawn as 3 10" wide x 11" tall x 3.5".

What about vertical flow? These 3 cores flow a lot. Would the air even get cooled enough????

THose cores are only 6" tall.

Thanks.

Re: Intercooler???????/

Why couldn't you use the first design, if they were just cores that were welded together to match the radius you need? Doesn't seem like it would be much different than custom end tanks being welded on??? Maybe I'm way off here?

Re: Intercooler???????/

In the top drawing, will the flow go way down because the cores aren't touching each other in the front?

I know the trucks use 3" tubing to the intercooler and back. Do you think I could get away with 2 1/2?

Re: Intercooler???????/

You can definately drop the tube sizing on the return path, as there will be less CFM flow leaving the cooler than that entering.

Re: Intercooler???????/

i have a friend with a 98 4x4 van with a 7.3
we put in hybrids and a h2e(had it done)
he needs a cooler bad,as he cant use all his power.
i had many thoughts on a cooler config, the grill is kinda trianguler shaped, and i was thinking of haveing a cooler made the exact same shape, ther it would replace the grill.
biggest problem would then be,he would have a cooler for a grill, but maybe do up some small crome rods and fab up some kind of covering.

Charles, are you serious or are you trying to say that cooler won't flow enough?

That is pretty much what I have in mind, although maybe not the exact shape, of the grill.

Hopefully be able to cover it up with one of these.

What size core were you thinking about?
