Proof that the old 7.3 can make TRK @ 3100 RMPS

Well I think there might be a new trend in power for the old PSD.

First off I must say that this is DB approved info. See attached sheets. There blessed with his signature.

I have a truck that is making power and torque up until it hits the rev limiter. The truck is de-fueling yes the rev limiter is at about 3300 to 3400 per Jody.

Tuning changes are in the works to get more fuel and more revs.

So this is for all the nay sayers that say the old PSD can't make torque above 2500 PRMs.

To level set this truck has a stock cam.\, Stock Crank and cut pistons to the tune of about 16.5/1 compression. It's pushing about 260-270 PSI of compression cold.

Take a look at these dyno sheets. The HP numbers are off but my 1/4 mile ETs say estimate about 597 HP but stuff happens and it was adyno jet. So here's the prof that I make power and torque till a bit over 3100 RPMs.

Let the games begin.

Re: Proof that the old 7.3 can make TRK @ 3100 RMPS

Thanks I was impressed even though I did not get to my 700 HP goal.

Now I just need to uncork it a bit more and get some more air on the high side and I'll be sitten pretty as there is plenty of fuel left to burn.

From what I heard for the crowd I think my pig almost won the smoke show.

Thanks Mike She's coming along.

Some last minute turbo tweaks have helped and the live tuning made it soooo much more fun to drive. Plus I can dress her up and take her to town without smoking up the place.

Looks like the turbo didnt lite until it was high in the rpms. Prolly could of picked up a some more hp if it lit at say 2500 rpms. Your truck has over 600 hp written all over it.

heres my old dyno sheet. The turbo lit a little sooner than yours and made peak power around 2750 rpms. At 3100 rpms it dropped power just a little.

Re: Proof that the old 7.3 can make TRK @ 3100 RMPS

I'd say that the twins did not fully light I was down ~25psi on boost.

Not sure if I have a boot that was riped cause 2 runs later it gave up a run where we filming a street run.

So you're dead on there but I still had mucho fuel left so I'll agree that she's well into the 600s.

Re: Proof that the old 7.3 can make TRK @ 3100 RMPS

How is it so much different than these pulls?

Other than that fact that I didn't cut the fuel until 3600 or so rpm. You're not the first guy to manipulate boost and fuel to bypass the engine's natural tendency to rip itself apart between 2500 and 2800 rpm.

Revolutionary? No. But a nice power/torque split for sure.

I can do that with the stock PCM as well.... just hold the fuel back and create an artificially high peak. It's called "safe" tuning and you will start to see more of it and more trucks with stock rods seeing 700hp in the near future. Nice curve though... looks more "natural"....
What injectors are you running Matt?

Man i'd be pissed if i had that much money into the engine and turbos/fuel as you do and only make 577hp.
