turbo shaft slop

so is it normal to have more side to side slop on a BB turbo compared to a non BB turbo? i jusy got my brand new 38R and it has a lot more movement sid to side compared to my stocker. is it because of the bearings needing more space for oil once it gets oil pressure?

Re: turbo shaft slop

basically yes.

The only shaft play that is OK & normal is the side to side (as long as the wheels aren't touching the housings, obviously)

...once the shaft is sitting on a film of oil it centers itself in the center section.

in & out play is not so good, as it means that the thrust bearing has a little wear/slop in it.
