7.3 Power Stroke Computer Hack ?

In the latest issue of Diesel Power mag they ran an article called 7.3 Power Stroke Computer Hack. The article said that by changing a resister in the injector drive module you could add 20 HP and 60 lb-ft of torque to the engine. I was wondering if any of ya’ll have done this to your trucks. If so did it hurt the truck I the long run? Also will this mod do any thing for a truck with a programmer on it?

It's called a modified IDM. And it has nothing to do with the computer. All you're doing is increasing the voltage used to fire the injectors.

And it is a good thing. Most shops will do it for you, and there are plenty of write-ups on it as well.

Re: 7.3 Power Stroke Computer Hack ?

I was told that it fires the injectors faster, resulting in advanced timing. Does the tune your running need to be modified to make up for this?

Another questions for sponsors, Does any one sell a modified IDM for those of us who are not real good with small electronics.

Thanks

Re: 7.3 Power Stroke Computer Hack ?

It makes the MOST difference on the 100 and 110volt IDM's. However it's useful on any of them. The increased in voltage allows the field to build quicker in the solenoids.
