EGT Questions

Ok I was driving on a flat hwy today with my sig truck with my quad in the back prolly about 1200 lbs in the box and I was getting 800 deg EGT's and 2-4 PSI boost at 70 mph. Oh and it was 57 deg F out.. Does this sound right? seems a little high to me considering the new turbo. Oh and I was running in the DP 80E tune...

Re: EGT Questions

No problem at all. If the road is truly flat, my EGT's are usually 10X the speed I'm going. 70mph = 700* EGT +/-

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

Re: EGT Questions

I would have thought the TN would have dropped EGT's down to about 600 at least..

Re: EGT Questions

I noticed with my BB turbo that the EGT's run a little hotter than the stock turbo unloaded at cruising speeds. I just figured that the turbo isn't spooled enough I make about 2 psi less boost. Loaded it runs over 100F cooler.

EGT changes aren't seen until you really get on the truck hard.

Also remember, you've gone from a .84 A/R turbine housing to a 1.0 A/R. Even though it might feel like it spools as quickly down low as the stock turbo, there is an actual difference. With the same amount of fuel, going to a larger turbine housing will increase turbo lag, and if you keep going bigger, you'll actually see EGT's at low load/low throttle increase (but at higher load/high throttle situations, EGT's will decrease). So there is a tradeoff somewhere in there.

But with what you have and the mods you are currently sporting, I wouldn't worry about it. Drive it and enjoy.
