Surging question D66

Hey guys. I just upgraded my D66 with a cryo bearing and a 1.15 exhaust housing. Happy with the drop in egts. But still have some surging going on. Unhooked from a trailer I only notice it a little in 3rd, but in 4th at 2000 rpms and up at half throttle it gets kinda bad. When hooked to a 3000 lb trailer it gets worse from 2nd gear on. (My heaviest trailer is 9000 lbs) Mostly noticeable at half to 3/4 throttle. When at full throttle it is still there, but isn't nearly as bad. I can't hear it, but can see it on the gauge. Any thoughts? A buddie of mine is running the same setup with a 38r with no surge. And I am still smokin a bit and am considering more air, but don't know what direction to go yet. I'm at 4,300 ft and am boosting 32psi.

Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Surging question D66

Or a 38r or PDR or HX50 anything that is better sized to your application. The D66 uses a stock cartridge IIRC so you are right at the limit for what it was designed for.

Re: Surging question D66

PDR and 38 will move no more air then the D66. The next step up from those turbos is a modded h2e.

Not sure why you are getting surge especially with a 1:15 housing, I have had maby one other complaint about slight surge with a 1.0 housing, 1:15 should not surge at all. I am thinking there is a problem with tuning with fueling levels at part throttle. Not enough fuel will cause it to not be able to maintain drive pressure when compared to boost at that throttle position.

Re: Surging question D66

4300 ft may be the issue with tuning?

Re: Surging question D66

I'll give Jody a call Monday and see if he can do some fuel tweaking, as requested by Bean. Thanks to Bean and Adam for the call today. I'll post back with results. It may take a while. I need to get the module and cable to download the new tune to my tuner. I'll probably need a hall pass from the wife on that. She hates my truck...

Thanks for all the input guys.
I'll check back daily.

Re: Surging question D66

The turbo isn't the problem, as stated above it is the fuel. Too many times when a surge condition is found, it can be traced back to the tuning. Yeah if a turbo housing is fitted incorrectly that is one thing but a 1.15 house, nope.

Re: Surging question D66

Well... Come to find out. The turbo is awesome, but it doesn't work on my truck.

I'm on a budget, so I am going to limp it til I can get a set-up that works. Kind of hard when I tow every day. Hope she'll last.

Thinkin H2E modded or something like it. Not 38R. But something that will bolt up to the H2E turbo mount.

The surge gets better when the tuner is turned down BTW. Fuel is badd evidently. So it is turned down to stock.

Any better turbo thoughts, that will mount up to the H2E set-up?

Thanks in advance guys!
