38R wastegate question

I just put in my 38R and I need to adjust the wastegate on it. I am only pushing out 20-22PSI with my wastegate plugged in. I unplug it and it will go up to 25 and thats it because my SES light comes on because of the overboost code. I also put a boost releif valve on the truck yesterday with the turbo but my light still comes on at 25. It is the valve from DI. Anybody know what I can do about the relief valve and my wastegate?

Re: 38R wastegate question

If you crank the rod in tighter, you can make it hold more. My thoughts are if you have stock injectors you dont need a WG. Also if you want a more accurate boost reading you need to take the sender out of the MAP line and tap the cold side IC tube and install it there.

I'm not sure what you mean. Does anybody know of anyway to set the DI boost relief valve? It looks like it is just spring loaded and releases that way.

Re: 38R wastegate question

Your boost gauge most likely is mounted to the MAP line near where your boost fooler is. You would need to install the boost gauge line to the passenger side intercooler tube to get the most accurate reading for your boost gauge.

Mine is tapped into the Y pipe.

Re: 38R wastegate question

OK... Then see if you can crank on the WG rod a bit and see if that will hold it a bit better. There is a chance that the WG is being pushed open by the exhaust gasses inside the housing. As for adjusting the fooler, I have no idea how it is built. I have not looked at DI's version.

Re: 38R wastegate question

So all I have to do for the waste gate is just screw in that rod?

Re: 38R wastegate question

Yup. It is kinda of a PITA. Remove the c-clip for the rod where it connects to the turbo and make the rod shorter. Take it in at least 6 turns. then when you are ready to install the rod back on, use an air compressors air nozzle and shoot air into the actuator. That will push the rod out so it is easier to put it back on.

One question about your boost gauge. Are you actually tapped into the metal of the Y or are you useing one of the lines coming out of it?
