38R w/ 1.0 ar surging.

Is playing with the waste gate actuator adjustment gonna help my surging turbo when pulling loads? I've tossed the idea of the 1.15 around about 3 times already but the more I read the less I want one. Just thought maybe I could tinker to make the 1.0 work for me. Thanks.

Fyi I'm pulling at altitudes of 2100-2200 ft.

Re: 38R w/ 1.0 ar surging.

You may want to look into the WW2 for the 38r. I think I will due to the lag I have heard the 1.15 housing can cause.

Re: 38R w/ 1.0 ar surging.

call bob at dieselsite..they are testing right now but his version is designed to eliminate surge and he has a prototype for the gt38r..so far all has gone well.

so the good news is this may end up with no surge for you the same or better boost numbers and more power..the down side is....is beta testing nothing is guaranteed so you may shorten the life of the turbo running it..it could tko the turbo or it could do nothing . it literally is in the r&d phase on the 38r..

now all of the units out being tested have done well and no one has had turbo issues..
this is simply a wheel change just like the ww1 and no one had issiues with that , so i think the chances are slim any damage would be done..just know that if it does no one is replacing your turbo..just saying. now the folks at dieselsite are some of the best in the bizz and upfront and very informative..so call and ask.

Re: 38R w/ 1.0 ar surging.

I ran the 38R with the 1.15 housing and i was not all the happy with it. Still surged down low and was slower to spool. I would look elsewhere to try and solve your surge issue.

Re: 38R w/ 1.0 ar surging.

Seems like the only time I had issues with the 1.0 housing was due to gearing. I had 37's and stock gears. Not enough RPM's and the turbo wasn't happy. You stay above the 1800 RPM range and you have a happy turbo. 38's and 4.30 gears, 1.15 housing and the turbo stays happy as long as the RPM's are up!
