7.3 turbo upgrade question

Got a question for everyone. I have a 2002 F250 superduty 7.3 my mods are DIY Tymar intake, 4 inch turbo back exhaust, Edge attitude with juice, high pressure oil rail crossover, diesel innovations complete ss pre-pump fuel line kit. I have the opportunity to get a superduty turbo with a wicked wheel, a 1.15 a/r housing and a banks big head wastegate freshly rebuilt off someone i know for cheap cheap money wondering what gains/loss i will get from this turbo its my daily driver and occasional tow rig for my 5th wheel camper and car trailer. i appreciate any input

Re: 7.3 turbo upgrade question

depending on how cheap it may be great ..a 2002 will have bad surge especially with your 5th wheel . 800 or less i would think about it...though i have an e99 an mine does not surge so i am happy. also you may try talking to bill at php he maybeable to tweak that edge unit some and get you some better programming..not sure which models he can tweak.

Re: 7.3 turbo upgrade question

will the WW & the larger housing spool a bit slower, and lose some on the top end? I would think so. My friend has the stock wheel and the ported housing and loves it.

Re: 7.3 turbo upgrade question

I would think with that 1.15 housing you may have some lag.

Re: 7.3 turbo upgrade question

I agree I wanna get rid of the edge I absolutely hate it. My egts are extremely high peaking at 1350-1400 only for a second and then I get out of it. I'm debating either DP tuner or PHP I'm not sure yet. I picked up the turbo today gonna order a pedestal oring kit and slap it on.

Re: 7.3 turbo upgrade question

yes its going to be slower spooling. get some custom tunes from one of the vendors and get the new billet wheel from diesel site. that will bring the spooling back up to par.
