Re: Scan gauge?

The 7.3L PCM does not monitor coolant temperature, it measures oil temperature.

You can add an aftermarket temperature sensor if you feel the need to though.

Is water temp not important? I know oil temp is but how do I know if it's running hot?

Is it accurate? I know the 7.3L has an ECT sensor, but I thought it was just used for the dash gauge and I have heard it is extremely inaccurate when monitoring it.

Also, is your 2002 a manual?

Water temp is not near as important as oil temp. You can tell if it is running hot by watching oil temperature.

Its an auto.

And yes I would say its accurate, temp reading does climb up then the t-stat opens and temps drops down around 190-195*. Stays there while driving normal and if I hot rod it around town or towing the temp does go up.

Where's the gong smilie when you need one?

There is nothing in 7.3l PCM to display ECT. The sensor is only for the dash reading. This must be done with a mechanical gauge to get an accurate ECT reading.
