what to check?

since I am have my truck apart for my frame painting, fuel mods and maybe new turbo&sticks. if I do not do the motor mods right now is there anything I should do or check while I have the turbo out? This spring I do plan on doing a coolant flush and install a filter. It is 13 years old and only 78K miles so it does sit alot.
Thanks

Re: what to check?

Check fb for leaks ,hpop lines, up pipes and clean fire wall if needed at minimum. Also would be a good time to check glow plugs. Fuel tank mods as well..aka hutch or harpoon mods.

Re: what to check?

I am going to do a full fuel mod I think with a sump but do not know if it will fit between the tank and the skid plate. Should I pull the oil cooler and clean or they are normally fine?

Re: what to check?

you can rebuild them..they do go bad
i put them in the same job as injector cups.
if it aint broke i am not fixing it.

but there are a few videos on it, and it is cheaper then doing the cups, because of the cost of the tools.

if you are even dreaming of doing studs, especially one at a time doin it with engine out is easier.

when doing the oil pan the engine is suppose to be rolled over for like 24 hrs or so priod to putting pan back on , presumably to keep oil leaks on to sealant surface down.

Re: what to check?

I may look at it when I do the coolant change this spring, the out side is pretty rusty. I am thinking I should do the studs but I was not going to pull the motor. I will build a platform to work from, both front fenders and front clip are off so maybe a little better. I hope!! I used por-15 on my oil pan maybe 4+ years ago and still looks ok. when I do the front frame rust I will have it on my lift and will look at and repaint the oil pan again. I am going to order an AE tool by the end of this week so I will have to get all my plugs plugged back in so I can test the non running things. I may just put my stock turbo back on and run the truck for the winter then do the other mods in the spring. But if I do that I should also wait to get the new tunes until I get the new turbo?

diesel orings sells a rebuild kit for 70 bucks plus or minus...not sure who else does.

Re: what to check?

so since mine is not leaking and dry as a bone on the out side the coolant flush should clean the out side? I was just thinking there may be buildup on the inside so it may not cool as well?
