max safe power with pmr engine

ok im curious what is the highest horse power you can get out of a prm 7.3 and not have to worry about scattering it every time you feed it, and what do you need to do to hit those horse power numbers, (i.e. turbo, injectors, chip, ect.)

Re: max safe power with pmr engine

I've heard the limit is anywhere from 400-500. I guess it depends on the circumstances..

Re: max safe power with pmr engine

if you are a gamblin man then yeah you can try for 600, but if you want it to be 100 percent reliable then you leave it stock. there have been many pmr engines popped with just a chip. i've been makin 465 with pmrs for almost 3 years but i know its a risk

Re: max safe power with pmr engine

If you have the money build a 450hp truck and hope it holds or put cryod forgded rods in it and then bigger.

38r
238/100 hybrids
reg return
dual sd fuel pumps or walbro
push rods
valve springs
upgrade tranny
gauges
intake
turbo back exhaust
custom tuning

Those mods will get you to 450hp; with pmr its hit or miss with your pmr breaking you could be a lucky one, at the same time it might come apart in the first 10 miles.

If you wanna go bigger get studs, 250/100 (or 250/200) injectors, cryod forgded rods, s467, srp1.1. You would be around 500-550hp

2001 7.3 PSD, Swamps 200/30 injectors, 38r turbo, HPx, FRx, bellowed up-pipes, non-ebpv ped, Gearhead tuned TS 6 pos chip, AFE big boost intake, 4" downpipe; 5" exhaust, BTS valve body, 31 row tranny cooler, autometer gauges, 05-07 front end, centurion rear bumper, 327,000 miles FOR SALE

2009 6.4 PSD, 71mm LP, studded, delete, H$S Mini Max

Re: max safe power with pmr engine

I still consider a PMR 7.3 with a chip a safer bet than a stock 6.0

02 250 CCLB, 6 spd, PHP Phoenix, ISSPROs, AFE/6637 intake, 4" DE straight exhaust, WW, coolant filter with ELC, AIH delete, ebpv delete, bellowed uppies, 4" on 35's and racelines

Re: max safe power with pmr engine

Been running this setup now for more than a year and a half:

250/200's
38R
Intake
Exhaust
Home-built fuel system
BTS
6.0L intercooler

180K miles and counting on the stock PMR motor. I don't even have studs, pushrods, springs, etc.

My tuning does have a lot of fuel limiting at lower RPM's, even in my race tune (used on the dyno a few months ago). Numbers in my sig. Another guy at the dyno event had similar mods on his truck running forged rods. He made 1hp more than me, but well over 100 ft/lbs of torque. That's the difference in the fueling, and probably why my motor is still together.
