??? powerstrokeshop overhaul kit ???

I bought a over haul kit from powerstroke shop and while I was assembling the motor I broke one of the piston rings, so I bought one from the stealership(actually it was a set for two pistons) and they were A little different.

So my question is, what did I put my motor together with? IH parts, aftermarket stuff? powerstroke shop says genuine Ford parts

I'm not looking to bash or burn anybody down I'm happy with the service and the price I got.I just want to know what I bought.

The over haul kit should have Mahle pistons. Not sure what your stealership gave you.

Re: ??? powerstrokeshop overhaul kit ???

They are probably Clevite rings since Mahle and Clevite are part of the same corp. The rings might even be branded with either Mahle or Clevite names.

Unless the dealership is buying aftermarket stuff somewhere they should be the same rings you got with your rebuild kit. Might be from a different production run. How do they differ?

Don't mean to high jack this thread, but what machine work did you do to your block and heads for your rebuild. I am thinking of going down this road when needed and looked at this rebuild kit. Just curious

Not a high jack at all, I bought another basketcase motor that had a standard bore, the motor had been dusted and honed out just fine, had the crank polished and checked, the previous owner of the motor started the rebuild process and gave up after he spent 1200 bucks on having the heads rebuilt.

The only issue I had was the hard facing on one of the cam lobes was about gone and I couldn't find a cheap source for a new cam(powerstrokeshop wanted 500 bones for just a cam) I could have had the cam fixed for about 150 bucks but I just yarded out the old motor and and used the cam out of it, it checked out fine.

I'll get some pics of the rings, they are different, I just replaced the one I broke, I'm not too worried I just wanted to know what the deal was between the two.
