What does $5k get me?

If I have $5k to spend on a 03 7.3 with 25k original miles in good running condition (short of a stripped thermo housing) how should I spend it. I originally wanted just to put in a South Bend clutch but my financier has approved additional funds to keep me from buying a crotch rocket or another go fast car

Its just a weekend toy, used for occassional hunting, and cruising. 4x4 6 speed, super cab long bed. Dont tow, dont pull, dont race other then a little stop light to stop light. Would like to get to 400rwp with reliability and no drugs.

Currently has WW and ATS housing. 4" turbo back straight pipe. TS Perf 4 pos chip. I am more then willing to scrap this stuff and start again with Forged Rods, a different turbo, injectors, whatever.

Suggestions?

Oh, BTW, great forum you got here. I am a convert from that other diesel site Same user name.

You aint lying brother, $5k wont be the end of it but if you want some suggestions i would say that a turbo (aka gtp 38r or TN BB),AFE Stage 2, and some tunes from Jody would be a nice start. If you want 400rwhp do yourself a HUGE favor and get rods first for piece of mind.

Re: What does $5k get me?

Rods, either factory forged or aftermarket. If aftermarket you'll just about eat up that 5k with install, probably have enough left over for a turbo.

I'd go with a 38R or PDR drop-in turbo.
Big Oil
Injectors
Clutch.

I prefer Terminator for the oil.
MiniMe's are a pretty proven injector as are stock BD's with 7 hole nozzles.
SouthBend OFE or FE if you are gonna get real aggressive.

That setup will do 400 or 350 or 150 depending on how you tune it.

It's dependant on whether he wants to chagne rods or not. If not then 400 would be THE MOST he could run anyway.

For 375 and keep the PMR's you could do
Clutch - 850
38R or PDR - 1800 or 1300
AC's or about 2500
4650 W/O big oil

Tuning depends on who and how many tunes.
