Garrett 38R

Well I just got it. It's got some shaft play, side to side... it goes from being almost 2 mm away from the housing to just under a mm. Seem normal? I've got a video and pictures.

Re: Garrett 38R

For the 38R, they typically have shaft play without any oil in them (the bearings float on oil). If there is enough play to allow the wheel to contact the housing, then you have problems. Also, there should be no in/out play.

Re: Garrett 38R

That's exactly what I thought (read it somewhere). It does not come in contact with the housing and there is no in and out play.

Unfortunately it won't be back to back to back like originally planned since my TN BB ate itself.

However I ran back to back to back 13.7's @ 97 mph on position #4 with the TN in 80 some degree weather. With 1/2 tank, back seat, spare, tailgate on. So I plan to run with 1/4 tank this weekend and will have the seat, spare and tailgate on for that run since the weather looks to be within 10 degree's.

Re: Garrett 38R

Marty, that play is normal. Better than 36 be ready for more than 40. I'm hitting 32 with stock injectors

Re: Garrett 38R

Oil... duh. I think I have told others in the past that it's normal with the 38R until you get oil in it.

I hope to see 40+... finally start seeing what this baby can do!
