D66 blown AGAIN!

Well I pulled off my intake tube to inspect my turbo just to make sure there wasn't any shaft play because I had heard some very faint scraping sounds coming from the the turbo when at idle and when I would shut the truck off. Sure enough the turbo has some serious in and out play and the wheel is scraping the housing. Keep in mind that Bean's rebuilt the turbo like 5 months ago and now it's junk again. These journal bearings simply won't last for some reason, and i'm not even hard on the truck and it's only wastegated to 32 psi so I don't know what it's going to take to make the D66 last on my rig. I'll be calling Bean first thing monday morning.

Just sharing my experiences with the D66.

Re: D66 blown AGAIN!

I also am sure Bean will take care of you. Are you sure you have good oil flow to the turbo? I wouldn't have a clue as to how to check it,,,some one else may, but it's a thought.

Well I wouldn't know how to check it, but there aren't any oil leaks that for sure. The stock turbo has 148,000 miles on it and it's as tight as a drum still. Thank god I kept the stocker just in case something like this happened..... twice.

Re: D66 blown AGAIN!

Well, I don't know what Bean changes in the 66 that is different in the shaft/bearing area. I know Wanda, (Tubbzz) wife has been running one for a while, her first one went bad too, but it was one of the VERY EARLY ones, or maybe even a Prototype. She has had no issues since then that I know of.
She is making 400+- a couple at the Rear wheels too. So she is making very respectable power with her 97. And to hear Terry talk, she "Drives it like she Stole it" every day!

Re: D66 blown AGAIN!

We had an early d66 that blew on the track at TS. He said the early one had a casting flaw of some kind.

Well my turbo is Howard's (strokin_early_99) old turbo and I'm not sure if it's one of the early ones, but when I bought it from him it blew within the first 10 days On stock injectors and and Edge Evolution. Then I had Bean's go through it and rebuild it, now I have stage 2's and Jody's tunes...... worked for like 5 months and now its junk again.

Re: D66 blown AGAIN!

Shocking.............................not really. According to Rivercity, they suggest nothing larger then Stage1's. What were your boost levels? Around 40 lbs?

Good luck with your new turbo.
