Angry Yep,another rod story!!

Monday July 7,2008;time 1:30 PM I through another forged rod.Iwas just driving along @ 70 mph and let go taking another block with it.I am sure it bent the cam and crank like before also. This time it was #2 cylinder, last time #8.This engine had just over 20k on it.It is probably my fault because I didn't Magn-flux the rods.I bought a complete engine from Rwoody "with only 65k on it"yeah right.Well,I had a new block so I used the rotating assm out of it.I turned the crank, but did nothing with the rods and pistons except clean and visally inspected them.At the time I was going to into install, already had them,R&R rods and coated Mahle pistons.Well, baby girl came along and they got sold and old rods and pistons went in.So,what now???I am going to buy a Ford short block for $2600,anyone know of a better price??,and sell my beloved truck. To be honest I wanted to install a 5.9 12v,but no money for that either.

Re: Yep,another rod story!!

I will have a long block coming out of a 95 here in a bit it only has 300,000 miles on it
Seriously though, a kit from powerstroke shop and for what I want for it you'd be way less than 2600. only problem is getting from Idaho.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. If it happens to me again, I'm going common rail! It sucks when it happens, like a punch in the face.

Re: Yep,another rod story!!

You should be able to find a running block for far below 2600... I spent some time searching and found them for as little as 4-500 bucks. Bought min in short block fashion though locally for a bit more.

If I blow this block, it's 12 valve for me. And no more shoot for 500... more like 700+
