Coolant loss from changing t-stat

When I replace my T-stat how much coolant is going to come out? Also, do I need to use any rtv or anything when I replace it and the housing?

2000 F250 Lariat SC 4X4, aFe 2 PG7, MBRP 4" SS Duals w/muffler delete, Dipricol gauges, 203* T-stat and billet housing, Dieselsite Coolant filter, 6.0 intercooler...07 Harley Lights, 5K retro-solutions HIDs, ITP pre-pump kit, Harpooned, "The Cure"

you will probably lose about a gallon or so. New t stat comes with the replacement o-ring. Using some good rtv never hurts to ensure a good seal. Just dont use gobs of it!

Just put a 5 gal bucket under the drain on the radiator, drain it, then position the bucket under the upper radiator hose/thermo area. My method anyways.. didnt really lose any. I use CAT coolant so, cant afford to loose any

It took me almost 2 gallons. 1 of coolant and 1 of water.

01 Excursion 7.3L Powerstroke. Gauges with AIH Delete, AIS, CCV Mod, 4' MBRP, BTS Trans, 6.0L Trans Cooler and Intercooler, DP-Tuner F5 chip, ITP In Tank Mod and Boost Annihilator, Diesel Innovation's Regulated Fuel kit, BTS Big Oil system, GTP38R Turbo with 1.15 A/R housing and BPD Stage II AC injectors. Bilstein Shocks with U front and A Rear.
