Bad turbo seal?????

Hi gang,

Friend of mine picked up a Garrett BB turbo for a good price. The turbo is new, never installed, however it's 3 years old. I was kinda worried about the seals, so I put some oil in the feed/drain hole. After about 45 minutes sitting on the bench the oil migrated to the exhaust/turbine side of the turbo while the intake/compressor side seems to be dry.
Do we have a seal issue, or is this unit ok for install?

Thanks,

No, thats normal for the GTP-38r... I think they design it for oil leaks to keep the housings from rusting...

Without a place for the oil to drain to it will leak. The oil will drain where ever there is least resistance. The best thing to do is clean turbo so there is no oil on it and try it on the truck. Then you will know if there is a problem.
