I don't know. I never tried that. I do know the 4WD is functioning normally. I've had to use that a few times since the vibration issue started.

Try that out. If it stops. Those bearings are bad. They are inside of the unit bearings.

Re: vibration, like driving on a rumblestrip

Has anyone checked the carrier bearing and rubber around it. i.e. The bearing might be okay, but if the rubber mount is worn or cracked, it can cause similar symptoms. Engaging 4wd might tighten-up the driveline just enough to disguise it.

Have you checked your u joints? I had one that was sticking and would vibrate sometimes when not engaged, but in 4wd it was forced to turn so it wouldn't vibrate

Mechanic called. Said they found nothing wrong with the rear end as mechanic #3 said. Nor did he find a problem with the output shaft of the transmission as he's thought. But did find bad bearings in the front end. I had a bad phone signal when he called. So, didn't get any more than that. He's replaced the bearing but had not test driven it yet to make sure that resolved the problem.

Hopefully your mechanic used good unit bearings or you will be doing it again soon
