Exhaust manifolds for a 2000 7.3

Happy Easter,

First post here. I purchased a 2000 7.3 F250 back in November of last year. First F250, first powerstroke, first diesel, etc. I did not do sufficient homework on these trucks and really got in the game with money being the biggest factor. I ride motorcycles during summer, so I really just wanted something for the Chicago winters and to potentially haul a dirt bike or two. As I am coming to learn, I may have indeed gotten what I paid for. The truck is pretty sound mechanically as it had to pass inspections for pulling a landscape trailer, but cosmetically the thing is bad. Bed is rotted, rocker panels, cab corners, base of all 4 doors has rust. When its all said and done, I probably paid about what its worth.

Enough about that. I was driving a few months ago and noticed a puffing coming from the engine bay while driving. Also a lack of power. After not so careful examination and research I determined the plumbing in the exhaust side of the turbo needed replacing. I ordered up pipes, manifolds, etc. After the pain staking process of removing the old crap (midwest truck, bolts all frozen and rotted) I finally got to the half way mark of my project, time for reassembly. It is then that I realized I had made yet another error. The exhaust manifolds I ordered are crap. The ports are all over sized and out of round, the bolt holes are various sizes, and the bolt holes seem to be thicker (resulting in the bolts not threading in as far as the old ones did, potential for pulling the threads out of the head.)

Both disappointed and perplexed, I am back to the drawing board on this and really dont know where to go at this point. Does anyone have experience with actual decent aftermarket headers? Should I just bite the bullet and go OEM? I have looked around and it seems like everything including Dorman is getting piss poor reviews for their offerings.

PS i attempted to use the search function and didnt find anything on this topic, if there is please forgive.

Are the manifolds actually bad or do they just need to be cleaned up. I took mine to a machine shop and had them planed down to make them true.
