Need some help guys on some codes on my friends 02 7.3 powerstroke

Can you give me a little more information on these 2 codes that are stated

First one is a P1249 Wastegate fail steady state test

Second one is a P0478 Exhaust pressure control valve high input

Why are these appearing?

His mods are K&N FIPK without the k&n filter instead has a injen/amsoil filter on it

Banks 4" Turbo back exhaust

SCT Xcal3 canned tunes

Autometer pillar gauges

Some Big boost thing from E-bay

Any information would be great. Thanks Guys!

The "big boost" thing from Ebay, is that just a vacuum line with a hole in it, or is that an electrical connector? If it's an inline electrical hookup, that's probably what's causing the P1249 error. Otherwise, you have a bad wastegate solenoid, or it's unplugged. The solenoid sits right in front on the intake y-pipe, and has an electrical plug plus a red and green line coming out of it.

As for the P0478, the tube leading to the exhaust backpressure sensor may be getting clogged up. Here is a writeup to clean it out: http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/ebps.html
