Trans Temp Gauge Bouncing

I installed my glowshift gauges yesterday and they worked fine. Today I started the truck and after a few minutes, the trans temp gauge starts bouncing all over the place.....I checked the ground on the sender unit and it was fine.....and ideas?

Re: Trans Temp Gauge Bouncing

Check your ground again... Where do you have it grounded? Is it spliced into another ground or bolted to a metal piece?

I had the same problem and it was a bad connection. Sometimes it would bounce, sometimes it would work perfectly, and sometimes it wouldn't work at all. I went through a couple gauges and 1 sending unit before I chased down the ground.

Re: Trans Temp Gauge Bouncing

ok where are you guys grounding the sender? I have mine grounded to the skid plate under the transfer case and its still bouncing.....it will bounce from 0 to max until it warms up. then it will bounce from the correct temp to max and back and forth....its really starting to piss me off

Re: Trans Temp Gauge Bouncing

mine did the same thing. I ended up replacing the sender and rewiring the entire thing. works like a charm now.

i would think glowshift would have some troubleshooting tips. you'll probably need to read some voltages across the sender and the gauge to make sure they're within spec and zero in on the problem. Glowshift should be able to tell you what the spec voltages are. if you're out of range, you can replace the bad part.
