6.0 upgrade stages and what is needed

I have owned my 04 6.0 excursion for about a month now and was looking to do a few things for reliability and power. I have read alot on the forums and heard conflicting stories about what is needed and when. can you guys elaborate on what is needed for each hp gain or step?

I have an Edge platinum and am getting ready to do the oil cooler, EGR delete and possibly head studs if they are needed. I have deleted the cat but have not done a full exhaust and intake yet due to what I have read on the forums about when they are needed (saw something that said stock intake will support 500hp) I have also been told that I will need a turbo upgrade and upgraded injectors to make 500hp.

Bottom line. I just want a reliable rig that makes good power. What do I need to accomplish this with an 04 6.0.
thanks for any and all info.

Re: 6.0 upgrade stages and what is needed

another vote for the above:
Turbo back exhaust
SCT tuner with IDPs street tune
Full EGR delete
ARP studs to hold it all together

You'll have a fun truck, push a bit more than 400 at the wheels and your 6.0 will be reliable for many miles.

Thanks for the responses.

So if I everything that you guys recommend
Turbo back exhaust
SCT tuner
Full EGR delete
ARP studs

This should make around 400hp. How much torque is that?

It currently has an Edge platinum on it and I tweaked it a bit to be safe on the trans. Should I keep it or change it out?

Re: 6.0 upgrade stages and what is needed

It would be to your benefit to ditch the Edge and get a SCT.

The list is good and typically with a diesel, you have double the HP number in TQ, so at 400hp you should be around 800 lb ft or close.

Let me know if I can get you some prices.

Re: 6.0 upgrade stages and what is needed

When you start looking above your normal bolt on parts, it starts to get expensive. If your gonna do injectors, your gonna need a fuel system. Then your gonna probably start looking at high EGT's so an intercooler is gonna come into play, or swapping to a bigger turbo. Your stock tranny with the edge is doomed, but get an SCT and some good tunes and your good to go IF the tranny is in descent shape to start with.

See here for the EGR delete and save a few bucks.
