Pull the engine or not??

Getting ready to do studs/egr delete AND a new clutch. Do not have a lift so this will be a cab on operation. I was wondering if it would be easier to just pull the engine to do the work? It's either that or do the engine stuff and then drop the trans to do the clutch. Thoughts?

Yes! That's what I did. Judy make shore to loosen th bolts on the trany and slide it back as far as you can. That inch helps. I put a dd southbend clutch on it. What clutch u going with?

Re: Pull the engine or not??

Pull it!!!!!! It's all right there in front of you after that. Easily fix anything on it right then. Sure makes 210 ft/lbs alot easier. Like Stroker said, tranny all the way back. It will wedge in there. Put a jack in the rear to hold half of it up.

Re: Pull the engine or not??

Your saying to pull the tranny back as far as I can correct? What else, besides the steps to do the heads will need to be done to remove the engine?

Gonna do a South Bend clutch. Cant decide on a single or double disk though.

Take the Sheet metal off. Bumper, radiator and support, Fenders. Then you can get in there. Tilt motor back with trans to get the studs and head on. This is how the shop down the street from me does it. and they have a lift. Not sure why they do it like this but i saw it when it was all taken apart, and wow, you could do all the same stuff as if the cab was off. Anyway, that might work.

Re: Pull the engine or not??

I pulled all the front clip off. Not that you have too, I just didnt want to scratch everything up. Dont need to pull the heads. Turbo, oil/fuel filter housing,FICM,intake, ect. Pretty much every acc off the top.Get your up pipes out of the way too. You can tie your downpipe up and to the pass side.Remember to recover your coolant from the a/c system. I pulled my a/c compressor and PS pump as well. Didnt want anything hanging up. I made a bar to pull it. Gets it down low. Your gonna need every inch of headroom you can get. The one that comes with your run of the mill hoist aint gonna work.

Re: Pull the engine or not??

Go with a dd clutch from southbend. If you don't you will have to pull the trans latter on down the road to put a new clutch in.

Re: Pull the engine or not??

I just pulled the front clip apart when we pulled my engine, that way we only had to come up high enough to clear the oil pan, make sure to take off your up-pipes too.
