Those torque specs are no good if you use their new lube FYI.

I would just follow ARP's recommendations. JMO.

Black smoke don't mean it's broke... it means your tuning sucks!

I'm pretty sure this was/is the details on the the current spec, New Preload (torque) Recommendations for 6.0 ARP studs - Powerstroke Nation

As for the 90į method I think that mostly came out of Beans shop with turbo99's truck and bit of discussion on it buried here in this thread, How many have had multiple blown HG's? - Powerstroke Nation

Re: whats the best way to torque ARP bolts

Follow the instructions that come with the studs, torque spec will vary depending on which lube is included in the kit.

Re: whats the best way to torque ARP bolts

I was actually contacted by someone from ARP and spent a little time talking with them on the phone about the subject.

ARP has made it clear that torquing the studs past their specs will in fact YIELD the stud.

280 ft/lbs is way too much.

They spent a lot of time engineering a new lube so that the torque readings would stay consistent even if they were torqued, loosened, then retorqued. The new lube also only requires a 210 ft/lb torque. Follow their instructions!
