the 6.0 converter is a 6 bolt style and the 6.4 converter is a 8 bolt style, there are some internal difference between the two also, the filter is different I believe and the trans pan on the 6.4 is slightly different too.

there is also a planetary that is unservicable in the 6.4 also.. but the only difference that will make them un changable is the TC

Re: Whats the diff between a 6.0 trans and 6.4?

the pan is also deeper and has a better filter, they will also fit the 6.0 trans. My 07 has the 6.4 trans pan and filter.

Actually just ran into this scenario. Converter was speced by the customer and was brought in while we were building the torqshift from his 6.4L. The billet cover was drilled and tapped for 6 and 8 bolts. Something was up with the converter when it was welded together. The offset for the converter clutch was slightly different. It went into lockup, 1 time. And then never again. Put the stock one back in and it was perfect.

If it had used the 6.0L flexplate it would probably have worked. It only takes being off by .010 to .020s to not work.

This is why we like to do stuff in house and not mess with outside headaches.

Intermediate clutch stack up is a little different in the 6.4L if I remember correctly. Have to check the notes from the CNC program that cuts the pistons.
