Studs installed without Cab lifted off??

Alright, I've been hearing for a while that some shops are installing head studs in 6.0's without having to lift off the cab? Has anyone had it done to their truck and how are they holding up? Any mechanics utilizing this method? Any pros or cons? I have an Excursion and I'm thinking about doing them next month and I'm wondering if the technique works and how its done.

It works but it sucks. Lifting the cab or pulling the engine in your case would probabl be easier.

I have seen an excursion body off. Buddy of mine did it on his personal truck just to do it.

Re: Studs installed without Cab lifted off??

Just did my 05 F-250 pulled the engine to do it. Once you lift the front of the cab up it gets you tons of room to lift the engine out, I even put the turbo and exhaust on to reinstall it. Only undid the mount bolts on the fenders and under the front d/s and p/s, then used two jacks and 4x4s worked good! Hardest part was lining up the flywheel and torque studs for reinstallation

So is it possible to install the studs without lifting the cab or pulling out the motor? If so, why aern't more shops using that technique?

Because what pays more- doing studs or removing the cab and then doing studs?
But then most also pull the head for machining and HGs so that's another argument for either pulling cab or engine.

So is it safe to say that you can put the studs in but can't change the head gasket or get the heads out for machining?

It can be done, but it's not much fun I'm guessing. There are a few write-ups here and there on this forum and other.
