Exclamation Truck is down.....what could it be???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After sitting for two weeks, I went to start the poor thing. Had low batteries as I cycled the glow plugs, and waited for the light to go out...
Turned over, and barely started..
Well, it was barely running, smoking huge black smoke out the pipe, idleing about 475-525...
Shut it down...cycled key again...no go, batteries dead.

Got a buddy to give me a boost with his little ranger...same thing, tons of black smoke, very low RPM's, and a ticking sound coming from around the FICM area.

Gave it NOT enough time to charge batteries before I tried it again, and again.

Same result every time...heavy black smoke, NO response from the throttle pedal when pushed to the floor trying to rev it up...very low RPM's...

I called the wife, and told her I was leaving the truck, and getting a ride home, (3 hour drive) with a buddy...

Truck ran beautiful before it was shut down...no problems with the drive.

Possible causes???

-Very weak batteries
-botched GPM (Glow Plug Module)
-Crapped out FICM???

What could it be?

I need to take everything possible...there was no check engine light, but I am taking the A/E software with me when I go. (I think the truck has to run for it to work though...)

-it was starting to build oil pressure, but I had to shut it off.

Any ideas???

my batteries are going bad. mine will do the same thing but just leave it idleing it will clear it eventually. at least mine does. just drive it a little bit to charge the batteries back up.

It won't idle...the last time it did start with the heavy smoke, and very low idle...it quit.

An like I said in the first post, there is no response from the pedal.

If the batteries really are that dead. Does the radio and A/C and other stuff come on? Those are the first to drop when the batteries are really that dead.

Re: Truck is down.....what could it be???

yea..if the voltage is super low, the truck will act crazy, I know mine did, If I left the battery charger plugged in, it would act fine. You should know better then letting that truck sit for 2 weeks though!! If I am not driving mine, I try to crank it 2-3 per week.

Re: Truck is down.....what could it be???

Is it cold where you are? Could be gelled up but I doubt it because if your seeing black smoke then your getting plenty of fuel but you could change fuel filters...Id start with the batteries.
