Just got me a used '06 PSD - advice

Back in January I purchased a super clean 2006 F350 with only 26k on it.

Took it to both a body shop and the stealer for a head to toe check and both cave her a clean bill of health. The oasis report was spotless, nothing at all.

I am getting ready to do exhaust and a tuner, my question is do I need to go to the stealer and have them update all the stock flashes to whatever the latest are; PCM, FCIM, etc. or just get the tuner and send the strategy off to get my custom tune.

I am not looking for asphalt shredding RWP, something nice and streetable but with a bit more umph than stock.

Also, I am going with a turbo back (no kitty); and really like the deeper sound of the 5"....any downsides to a 5" over a 4"?

Thanks

If your happy with the way your truck runs right now, starts in the morning, your mpg, etc. Then DO NOT get it flashed. You'll hate your life. Don't fix it if it ain't broke . If your happy I'd send off your current strategy for the tuner.

With a five inch exhaust they say if shifts the powerband a little if IIRC. I love the 5 inch compared to the four inch, I don't think you can compare them.

no difference between the 4 inch and 5 inch that I have noticed except for the sound. If you want the deeper tone go with the 5 inch exhaust.

Its up to you, but unless you get the highest grade stainless I would just save money and buy an aluminized exhaust. I got the mid grade stainless and it rusted just the same as any normal piece of metal. I wish I would have gone with aluminized from the start. $.02

Re: Just got me a used '06 PSD - advice

So I will be ordering my exhaust this week...I am still torn between the 4" and 5"....looking for any last minute advice from you all.

Other than a tuner, I do not plan on doing many more HP related mods as I need this truck to last a while.

Thanks all

I do 4" to 5" to 6" and I think its all personal preference. I love the sound of my 6" stacks. They're deep and makes my 6.0 just sound right..too me. Other people hate it and some love it. If you want it louder and deeper I would go with a 5", if you're ok with the way it sounds now stick with a 4". Is it straight piped already? If not that will change the sound of it also. Just remember, its not what everyone else has done, its what you want. You're the one driving the truck everyday after all. Good luck. Once you get that extra umph, you may find yourself wanting a little more here and a little more there..

Right now, motor wise, she is bone stock. Even though she is an 06, I just broke 28K with her.

I will do studs and egr in due time but right now she is still under warranty and i do not want to go there.

I have listened to the both and am still not sure

Another vote for 5" I love mine. I opted for the cheap stainless and after about 2 years and 40k its rusted up a bit but not rotting or flaking, just surface rust, if I really wanted to I could polish it back to life.
