So, I bought this SCT, now what???

Ok, I bought this SCT Xcal2 from a friend of mine whom is currently out of town and hard to get a hold of. I plugged it in and played around and read MY strategy code, wrote it down along with serial # and all other info it had under that section. My question is, how would I go about finding what his strategy code was? Scrolling through it, I found that it has 3 tunes in it currently. SMOKE, Insane1, and Insane2.... is what they are named. it also says "Elite diesel, join the elite" so I'm assuming that's where he bought it. Says it is currently stock and has 5 unlocks left.... I don't mind buying some tunes, but if those 3 would work it would be nice to try anyhow and could buy some more down the road if I wanted some that were a little different. I mean, this thing would've let me load one of those tunes on my truck had I hit the select button. I clicked on "read strategy" so that was my code it gave me, right? It didn't bring up his old code right? Evidently this thing is idiot proof because it has got me all confused. And is there supposed to be a disk for loading any software on my PC? Because he didn't send me one.

Sorry for the soap box here, I just don't want to screw up the SCT or my ECM. Error on the side of caution!

The strategy you read is your strategy. Just as you said you need that and the serial # to get your tunes. I am not sure if you can look up what strategy the tunes already on it are for. Software can be found on SCT's website...

Re: So, I bought this SCT, now what???

Right, that's what I meant. I wondered if there was a way to back trace the tunes to see what strategy code they are for? Then I would know if they were of any use. And what do I do with the 3 tunes if they aren't for my strategy code? leave them on there??? or?? Is there supposed to be some sort of software with it like a disc ? or ? but it is handy now to know that the strategy code I'm reading is for my truck and ser.# Thanks.

Thanks,
-Ryan

Only way to figure what strategy those tunes were written for is to either readt the strategy of the previous vehicle or ask Elite. They might be able to look it up by device serial number.

If you get new tunes you will just delete the Elite tunes that are on there and replace them with the new ones.

You should be able to get the software from SCT's site

Thanks 06powerstroke, guess I should've read closer. I asked the same thing twice! No more beer with dinner!! Ok, i'll have to get software on website and maybe call Elite again... probably just buy tunes. Who y'all recommend for that? Elite, Innovative, Jody @ DP, or ?

I like Innovative's tuning. Really suits my driving style and has great power. I was happy with [email protected] tuning too. I have never tired elite's tunes and I don't know if Jody does 6.0's...

Lots of good tuners out there for the SCT -- my personal favorite is Direct Injection Performance - GoGoDiesel.Com, Your Source For All Things Diesel!

Re: So, I bought this SCT, now what???

Ok. Thanks all. I got the Liveload software downloaded and played with it and think i'm pretty well set. I just need to buy some tunes. One more question, is there any way to pull the 3 tunes out that are currently on it? I'm guessing no. The only way of saving them is if they were e-mailed to me originally. That's why you save before you put on tuner. Does it just copy the file before its put on tuner? or transfer? What I'm asking is, if I buy 3 tunes for this and then buy 3 more, is there a way to have all 6 saved and play around with whichever combo of 3 I want? Or once they are overwritten on tuner are they gone? Know what i'm saying?
