Re: Transmission Fluid

If it's the 5r, stay with Mercron LP or SP (I forget which is the latter)

Re: Transmission Fluid

i believe SP is the one you want to run with the 5r110. they are rather finicky with oils.

Re: Transmission Fluid

LV is fine to use also. SP and LV are interchangeable. IIRC i think LV actually replaced SP.

Re: Transmission Fluid

Ford states either is ok and intermixable
I run LV like the 08+ up trucks because between the fluid and filter change the service interval was spaced out substantially
SP is still available but it is mainly for Manual transmissions that can't use the LV

Re: Transmission Fluid

There's guys running amsoil with no issues. I run the cheap carquest brand mercon/dexron trans fluid. Been running it for probably over 5 years with zero issues. I know that a lot of guys run regular mercon/dexron ATF fluid with a built trans.

Re: Transmission Fluid

are you sure carquest has an fluid approved for use where Mercon LV or SP is specified ?

Valvoline does but it's about the same price as the Motorcraft Mercon lv or sp and has only been approved for a few years i still have bottles that do not have approved listed on them
i actually called Valvoline because their website stated approved but the bottles didn't ( i still had a warranty to worry about not to mention a $4000 trany

Re: Transmission Fluid

Just checked my latest bottle of Valvoline Maxlife ATF (I work at NAPA) and they have Mercon LV right on the front of the bottles now Zmann. I changed out mine when I got it about a year ago with this and everything seems to be going smoothly.
