Suggestions on programmers

I got myself a 6.0 for a work truck and I just want to delete the emissions and prolly throw a set of head studs in.. I guess my first question is do I even need a programmer to do these things? I know emissions weren't as big of an ordeal when these trucks were produced like they are on newer ones. My second question would be, if I do need a programmer what is a suggested one? I have a 6.4 with a mini max and love it but don't wanna spend that kind of money on the work truck if I don't have too.. I more or less just want something that will work I'm not hard pressed for big hp or torq numbers.. All in all I just want to make this truck last and dismiss all the bs problems, truck is bone stock now with 120k any suggestions are appreciated thanks

Re: Suggestions on programmers

you can delete the egr and do studs without a tuner but your check engine light will be on. As for a tuner sct is the only way to go with the 6.0.

I would flush the coolant and put coolant filter on it.

Re: Suggestions on programmers

As stated, with an 06 and no tuner, you will get a CEL if you delete the EGR. 03-04's usually don't, but the later models do.

SCT is a good route if you are looking for a cost friendly programmer that holds custom tunes. We carry them and can get you setup with EGR delete tunes to go with it. Check it out HERE.

Re: Suggestions on programmers

Thanks guys, I'm thinking about just keeping it basic with exhaust intake egr delete and possible studs and possibly a programmer. I just had a hpfp and a couple injectors put in and it seems to be ok now but I wanna eliminate anymore issues before I get stranded on the side of the road again

Re: Suggestions on programmers

Am I going to need custom tunes on this SCT programmer for the dpf delete?

Re: Suggestions on programmers

joemx611, you will not need custom tunes with the EGR delete, you can turn the valve off with the programmer.
BUT I would still highly recommend custom tunes.

Re: Suggestions on programmers

Ok thanks guys! One more thing, I've noticed that the truck starts fine cold but now and again when it's warm it takes me a couple tries to get it fired back up, would that be the glow plug relay?
