Bought an EGR delete truck, tuner stolen from detail shop!

Ok, so I just bought a 2006 f350 dually with the 6.0 from a Ford dealer. It was explained to me that the truck had an EGR delete kit an comes with a tuner because the delete kit would throw an engine code. Unfortunately the tuner was stolen while the truck was in detail shop. I spoke to the previous owner who told me it was an SCT tuner set to the first stage. Well the truck ran amazing and the dealer reduced the price 400 to cover the cost of a new tuner. My question is, at this point do I need the tuner and if so does the brand name matter? Truck has 51000 miles on it. Not sure what I've got into with this truck. I keep reading horror stories about head gaskets, head bolts, oil coolers and so on. Thanks for any advice.

I'm by no means an authority on the subject but its potentially disastrous not to have the tuner that's married to your truck. It could be fine as long as you never change the programming but I think you'll need a factory reflash of the trucks programs in order to reprogram it. I'm sure someone with more knowledge of the topic will chime in. Good luck with your new truck.

i have no idea on the tuner subject but as for the horror stories, as long as you change your oil when you're suppose to and keep up with regular maintenance it will be fine. I do highly suggest a coolant filtration kit and a blue spring upgrade if you don't already have them. they will save your oil cooler from clogging and keep your injectors from starving at WoT hence saving them from premature failure. I mean total it would be like $200-$250, and like an hour or 2 tops, and save you from costly repairs down the road.

Get it reflashed then go get yourself an SCT. I wouldn't want to ride around not being able to put my truck back to stock if need be.

the 400 will get you a new tuner and get some custom tunes the new SCT x4 is what I would get

have the dealer flash the truck back to stock so you can load your new tuner
no biggie

Re: Bought an EGR delete truck, tuner stolen from detail shop!

I really appreciate the help. Does napa or other chain auto stores sell the tuners? Maybe a truck shop. I'm in East Tennessee right now, but spend as much time in Dayton, Ohio. Ideas on a place to buy the tuner (and maybe looked over by someone who knows about them)? I'm just learning about these trucks and not sure about the other mods that where mentioned. My best guess on this truck...looks like the EGR cooler is gone and there's just a smaller pipe there. More suggestions would be awesome. Thanks. Truck really runs great, just a little nervous after reading tons of posts on here.
