Re: blew the top off the rad

The stock rads are only held together up top with those ring clamps...I would imagine with more hp more pressure is being built up in the motor

Re: blew the top off the rad

we know they are crimped ABS caps on aluminum radiators
but no one blows the tops off ( or it's not a known of issue)
so we are worried you have a bad head gasket to build that much psi and normally the Degas cap can keep up with a HG issue so I would make sure you don't have an issue before you throw a lot of money at a radiator

or do the mishi since you really need a good radiator to test

but put a psi guage on the cooling system so you can test for a bad HG right away

I agree find the problem don't just fix the symptom.

Re: blew the top off the rad

The spring in the cap should have relieved pressure long before a radiator came apart.

Re: blew the top off the rad

Not always! Depends on how big of a head gasket problem.

Re: blew the top off the rad

I'll throw a gauge on it...I had head studs done about a year ago with stock gaskets put on...only ones my mechanic trust...I would hate to have to redo it again but unfortunately if that's the problem then I'll address it accordingly

Re: blew the top off the rad

good call

and no one knows if the cap was bad

all things to check may just be an anomaly
but worth looking at
