6.0 turbo upgrade

What's everyone's opinion on the best turbo upgrade to run with stock injectors probably won't go much bigger than 155s down the road. Will be studding it soon. I'm trying to decide between a powermax, barder turbo stage 1, mtw stage 1 thanks

Re: 6.0 turbo upgrade

I'm partial to the barder myself, I have the stage 2 and LOVE it. And not to mention James is one of the most helpful people you will ever meet, his customer service alone is what sold me.

Any of those should work fine with those injectors. However I would suggest one of the stage 1s. Both of those are similar, however the powermax is different. Those "stage 1" turbos utilize the 13 bladed turbine with the smaller A/R that the newer trucks use, this means quicker spooling and a great street truck. The powermax uses the larger 10 bladed turbine, it doesn't spool as quick but flows a little more air and creates that whistle that the 03 turbo is famous for, I would recommend it if you plan on going bigger in the future. Also, the only way to run a powermax is to put a billet wheel on it, but you can buy them new. I would go stage 1 with the gains you are looking for.

Agreed...either stage 1 with 155s is going to be a nice gain.

Re: 6.0 turbo upgrade

Stage 1.5
Spool up faster
Quieter Operation
Recommended for those who tow heavy or have really big tires

Stage 2
More Top end HP
Really loud whistle
Recommend for those looking to get the most hp possible without stepping up to a stage 3 turbo

I was going to suggest the 1.5 or even the one I have simply because the powermax is goin to run you between 1100 to 1300 depending on where you order it from and then your lookin at another 3-400 bucks for the billet wheel, I paid 1600 for my stage 2 and it was well worth it. And yea it whistles really loud lol

Re: 6.0 turbo upgrade

I would step away from the powermax. Not worth it IMO. A smaller Barder, MTW, or KC would probably be much more worth it to you.

I would never run a cast wheel pmax on my truck. That cast wheel is garbage. I have even had pmax turbos that were out of balance right from the factory. If you buy a pmax then you need to put on a billet wheel... and then it is always a good idea to get it balanced.

If you never plan on going bigger than 155s then a turbo with the larger 13 bladed turbine wheel will serve you well... unless you are really hoping for the loud whistle or you might step it up to 175s or larger... then make sure to get a turbo with a 10 bladed turbine wheel.

13 bladed turbine turbos
MTW stage 1
Barder Stage 1
KC Stage 1.5

10 bladed turbine wheels
MTW stage 2
Barder stage 1.5 or 2
KC stage 2

It can get a little confusing because there is no set standard for "stages" of turbos
