Ficm update

Bought my 04 f250 about 3 months ago. When I started going through the motor and it's components I noticed the FICM had been replaced before by ford. Ford put a remanufactured ficm in and just wondering would they have upgraded the ficm to a newer version or would they just kept the original version 04 came with?

Re: Ficm update

All the internal parts of the ford reman ficm's are the same if it is a 7 pin they throw the board away. The only difference is the soft wear level. Ford does not make the printed circuit board I am not sure if they upgraded them or not. the newer ones still fail. Ford will always load the latest version of software . Ford is no longer doing any updates to the 6.0 programming they stopped in 2012. iirc there are 3 ficm strategy's model year specific. the ficms used to be shipped blank and the dealer would program them upon installation. ford now ships them with a strategy pre programmed. If it was installed at the dealer it should of been installed and pcm ficm tcm programed to latest calibration

Fixing ford diesels since before they had turbochargers

Re: Ficm update

Thanks wise guy. Yea the year on the ficm is 2012. Just trying to decide to replace it with a better one or just let it be.

ford ficms will fail but it is very common to get 100,000 on one. I still see a lot of trucks running original ficms pretty good considering they stopped making them 7 years ago
