NO power

just purchased my 06 6.0 has egr delete banks exhaust and SCT tuner. I am having allot of issues with power. In the tow setting i have a hard time towing my 30ft toy hauler camper that weighs about 11000lbs. My 3/4 ton gas Chevy towed this camper better than this truck. I took it back to the shop i got it from and they replaced some parts in the rear end bearings axel shaft etc, as well as the unison ring in the turbo. I can under stand why i have no power. It comes alive at 3000RPMs but seems like it can get out of its own way at low speeds. Turbo Lag is close to 4 seconds and I have can get over 65mph on the highway with the camper.

Any thoughts on this would be great. IM new to the diesel thing so please bear with me and help as much as you can.

Thanks allot guys

Josh

Re: NO power

A couple of different things could be your problem. Do you have any kind of gauges on your truck or any way to monitor what the PCM is seeing? If somebody had the turbo off I'd start by making sure that the exhaust is properly attached and sealed on the collector side of the turbo. Second make sure the MAP sensor hose is connected from the right side center of the intake manifold, it runs over to the top of the AC housing.

Re: NO power

I do have a a boost gauge as well as a pyro i will check everything you mentioned tomorrow. Truck will still boost close to 28 psi. But under load it bounces up and down. at one point a few weeks ago it was reading 0-40 back to 0 then to 30. was all ove the place.

Re: NO power

That kinda sounds like a wiring or sensor malfunction. It's really not possible for turbo pressure to bounce rapidly without some turbine wheel contact with the housing. In which case you'd probably hear that racket.

Re: NO power

Re: NO power

Just had similar issues. Boost would surge up and down anywhere between 5-20psi when under a load. Swapped in an older VGT solenoid I had laying around and problem solved. Not saying that's what is wrong, but if you know someone with a 6.0 that'll let you swap their solenoid for yours to make a quick drive, it'll confirm/deny that as the culprit. Only takes a couple minutes to swap one out.

Re: NO power

So you have a livewire to monitor?

Re: NO power

If you are reading boost off of a livewireTS Like me I would say VGT solinoid. Mine goes in and out and I will be replacing it this week. I have the same bouncing boost reading symptom and terrible lag, dogging bouncy accell if you load it heavy but empty accel. slowly its fine. Listen for your turbo pitch changing and watch your vgt duty cycle. It shows the command position not actual as far as I know. I Replaced my unison ring first too (had an indentation) and it took me a while to come to the solenoid as a conclusion. You can get the solenoid cheaper on eBay if your lucky, just make sure its an actual garret or ford one.

Re: NO power

ok sounds like this is going to be the problem. Also while crawling arround under the truck on a creeper I noticed that there is some oil that seems to be leaking. Looks like its seaping out of the heads. Unless this is old from before the dealership did the heads and studs. I will be calling him tomorrow to see if he has a solenoid he can send me.
