NEED SOME EDUCATION HERE..

I need to know , what up with ficm & ecm tuning as compared to a regular tuner.. apparent you can do these mods , plus run a tuner.. I posted here as these are , I think performance upgrades ..

I'm looking for things that will improve fuel mileage & help the truck run better without all the issues that sometimes are caused by running a tuner long term.. I like to think I know my truck , but there are many things I'm just not aware of & I am far from a mechanical idiot , thus being educated on these things is important to me..

I understand what these mods. do , I have read about them on the PHP site & it has my interest.. it makes sense & they say the tunes to ficm are changeable.. I'm 57 yrs. old & often all these letters for a part leaves me lost.. I do have a problem with short term memory , a hereditary , age thing.. thus the issue with the lettering of a part..

The ECM is what is "tuned" by your choice of tuner, ficm tuning specifically changes the injector pulse width. The ficm is totally separate from the ECM and requires it's own tuner. Sct is the only tuner that should be used to tune the ECM because it also tunes the trans specifically as well.

2004 6.0 ccsb Warren 430/150 hybrids, Warren Comp Trans, Warren Dual Hpop, Billet S475 w/race cover, Marty's A1000 Fuel System, Colt Stage 2, and all the other supporting stuff

Considering the OP says he is 57 years old I'd cut him some slack. ...sorry I didn't see it was the same screen name. WOW.

It's not dumb at all.

PCM= Powertrain Control Module
ECM= Engine Control Module
FICM= Fuel Injector Control Module

Yes the PCM and FICM can be tuned with a device. The SCT branded device is used for tuning the PCM. Power Hungry Performance uses their device to tune the FICM. A few others are out there but those are the most common you will hear/read people mention.

Long term tuner abusive use could cause issues or even make current issues worse. If you want dave56 I can send you my number and talk on the phone.

You see, in this world there's two kinds of people my friend....those with loaded guns, and those who dig.

You dig.

Re: NEED SOME EDUCATION HERE..

Dude. The op is the guy who said " is this a dumb question " hahaha.
To answer you question, yes. If you get a 58v ficm from swamps or another company, that makes a difference in cold starts and slight better mpg. I didn't notice any power gains on any of my 6.0 by doing this but the. Cold starts were much better and truck ran a bit smoother.

a real man drives a truck so mean, that the mere thought of mashing the go pedal could result in instant death

Re: NEED SOME EDUCATION HERE..

thank you heavy assault.. it appears you are very knowledgable in these areas.. so, I'm looking for some direction to improve my mileage with mild performance gains that wont hurt the truck .. directing me to a tuner brand aint what I wanted at all.. I am aware of tuner brands & what the hot names of preference are..

if you don't know, there are no dumb questions.. young smart ass know it all's , are exactly what I want to avoid.. I can only apologize for them & regret they weren't raised with any more respect for anything..

yes heavy assault I would like to talk further.. thank you for enduring my lack of knowing here.. it is much appreciated..
