I did mine one at a time without taking the heads off and everything has been good so far. Also just so u know u have to pound in the firewall on the drivers side to get the stud in. and take the heat box and all that out but it wasnt to bad...

Re: replace head studs but not gaskets?

A guy posted on one of the forums I read that he did his head studs one at a time and didn't have to remove the heat box. He put a jack under the engine and removed the motor mount bolts and was able to cock the engine at an angle and get them in. Sounded pretty creative. He didn't mention any problems with the driver side.

If you are going thru the trouble to install studs I would just do it the right way and get the heads decked, new gaskets and all that. Otherwise I think you are better off leaving the bolts until the gaskets blow then do it right.

Ok well whatever than know it all... I did it and i would love to see someone do it with that box in! And for the outside rear bolt i had to cut it to take it out and to put the stud in i had to make a dent...

Why if the gaskets are good? Than if it does blow you are only out of you time anyway. I have driven mine for 12,000 miles so far on a race tune like this and i drive the #### out of it and havent had any puking!

Because the reason head gaskets blow are the factory bolts stretch cause along with head surface tweaking with the heat. Just because there not leaking yet does not mean there not a ticking time bomb. Do it right once instead of risking it. Dont get me wrong just studs could last but doing it right then you never need to worry. Almost all shops deck the heads now days.

You don't know if your gasket is compromised or not if you willing to risk it go for it. My gaskets poped even with H11s so that tells you something.
