Re: why to have a coolant filter!

some motors are worse than others. I put a filter on my truck at around 45K miles. My truck has 67K miles on it now and i change the filter every year. I changed the first filter after 500 miles and it was really clean. Only a little casting sand was all. And every filter after than has been clean as a whistle. I think most of that gunk is the silicate in the coolant breakin down. That stuff will clog an oil cooler and egr cooler. After seeing that...i would hafta bet that your coolers might be partially plugged.
