Question Which option is best??

Blew another head gasket after having done the first ones about 7000 miles ago. Turns out the block was not flat enough. It blew between the second and third cylinders on the drivers side. When a straight edge is placed on the block, a .002 feeler gauge can be pushed underneath of the straight edge. From what I have looked up the most that should be allowed in that 1" x 1" area is about .001. So should I strip the engine down and have the block surfaced, or would O-Ringed heads be an option? Open to any other options if there are any. Chime in with anything that is missing or if something I said was wrong, all help is appreciated!!!

Re: Which option is best??

I had fire rings fail on my 06 twice. First time only the head was cut. The second time, we cut the head and the block. Don't know why they failed, but not going to give it a third try. We are going back to a stock head gasket and two flat surfaces. My suggestion would be, stock head gaskets and machine the block and heads flat.

I had my heads o ringed with the Wide Open Performance kit. I was told the reason most 6.0 o ringed heads failed was people were using the wrong head gasket. You might want to check with them and see what they say.

If this question is for me, yes, it was a complete tear down to groove the block.

There's a difference between o-rings and fire rings. I don't know how Wide Open does there kits, but a stock head gasket was modified for the fire rings. I'll look at the Wide Open stuff just out of curiosity.
