04 6.0 died and won’t restart

Truck was running fine. Pulled up to a gas station to grab a drink, got in the truck started it up and put it in reverse, backed up fine then put it in drive and it died. Won’t even try to start now. Just cranks and cranks!! What do I need to check to solve this issue!

Pulled some codes. Granted this truck has 420k miles on it. Gonna fix this issue and sell it.

1. P2291- injector control pressure too low

2. P0683- glow plug control module to pcm communication circuit

3. P0603- internal control module keep alive memory error

4. P0401- insufficient egr flow

5. P0278- cylinder 6 contribution/balance fault

6. P006a- manifold absolute pressure (map)

Does the oil gauge come up while cranking? Your icp issue is the most likely reason forthe stall and no start

Once you confirm you have sufficient base oil pressure you have to view ICP pressure while cranking to see what kind of pressure if any it has.

You can try unplugging the icp sensor and try to start it. It doesn’t appear to be your issue but that will rule out the sensor itself

Actually I did try that. I unplugged the icp sensor and it still wouldn’t start

Re: 04 6.0 died and won’t restart

You can verify base oil flow, by opening the oil filter, removing it, and having someone crank to fill the oil filter housing. It should fill in 10-13 seconds (or 2-4 seconds with the drain valve depressed).

P0683 is almost always a failed glow plug control module. A failed module can cause a no-start. You might plug in the block heater for 3-4 hours and then try starting with the GPCM unplugged. Probably needs replacing though.

Then you need to get a scan tool to post engine parameter data when cranking. Download ForScan to a smartphone and then buy the appropriate OBDII ELM327 adapter (bluetooth or WiFi).

Post (cranking data):
ICP pressure, psig
ICP volts
IPR % duty cycle
rpm
FICM MPower
FICMLPower
FICM sync
Cam/crank sync
