04 6.0 smoking and smells like fuel

Hey guys I’m new to the 6.0 world and I’m in need of some assistance. I just bought a 2004 Excursion with 96k miles on it. The motor has been bullet proofed and maintained well. I’m friends with the guy I bought it from and trust him a lot. I was messing with the head unit and cut the ground wire for the parking break so I could make a new connection. Ever since I did that the truck has been smoking like a train and smells like unburnt fuel. I read around and cleaned the egr valve and it was not awful so I don’t think that’s the issue. I personally don’t think that cutting the wire had anything to do with it either. I have reconnected it and it still smokes white during idle and acceleration. A point in the right direction would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Download ForScan for your smart phone. Buy the appropriate ELM327 adapter (bluetooth for Android and WiFi for iOs).

Forscan on your laptop is even more full featured. You will need a cable for attaching the laptop to the OBDII port.

Scan the truck for codes.

Sounds like you can probably expect an injector issue - assuming you found no moisture under the EGR valve and you are not losing coolant.

Driving w/ a bad injector can sometimes cause some expensive damage.

As soon as you can, install a fuel pressure sensor and gauge. Low fuel pressure is the most common reason for injector failure. Minimum spec at ANY time is 45 psig (my opinion is that 60 psig is a better minimum).

Took the truck to the shop and they pulled the injectors. One of the injector tips was cracked. Lucky they caught it before it blew apart and destroyed the motor

Low fuel pressure will take out another injector if you actually do have low pressures (and it sounds likely that you do).

Better check it or have it checked ................
