Coolant sensor

I have a SCT x4 and my coolant temp doesn`t get above 160 on the gauge. I put in a new tstat the other day and it still stays at 160. Could the coolant sensor be bad causing it to only read that much? EOT runs around 192 and Hank has the EGR deleted and a new oil cooler.

Re: Coolant sensor

In the morning (after sitting all night) what are the EOT, ECT, and IAT numbers?

You could always swap the EOT and ECT sensors to see what changes occur.

Re: Coolant sensor

EOT and ECT are basically the same, maybe 1 degree higher ECT in the morning. I`m a newbie as far as knowing what IAT means but after idling for 5 mins the ECT raises about 5 degrees before EOT follows.

Re: Coolant sensor

Sounds like the sensors are working - at the low range anyway.

I just have a hard time believing that w/ a new thermostat it doesn't get above 160.

Re: Coolant sensor

I`m going to change out the sensor today and see what happens. If that doesn`t help, I`ll go to plan B, lol

Re: Coolant sensor

Get an infrared thermometer, figure out what the temp actually is. I think you can find one at harbor freight for like 20 bucks.

Re: Coolant sensor

Or swap EOT and ECT for free.

That said, I really do like having an IR temperature gun!
