Broken clip....problem?

As I was pulling my heads apart to pull em for a head gasket job, I noticed one of the plastic retaining clips on a rocker arm was missing a small piece. I spoke with a local mechanic who only does diesels and he stated these plastic clip things are really only for assembly and once everything is torqued down they serve no purpose. Attaching a pic of the one with it missing and of another with the piece intact, just so you can see what I'm talking about. Is this an issue or am I ok?

No, just the tab at the top broke off. The main part of the clip is still intact. It's the middle pic above.

Re: Broken clip....problem?

I broke several clips when I took my heads off. yours appear to be made different than the ones used on my rockers. They were about 4 bucks apiece to replace and I did replace mine so I knew the motor was correct.

I've never seen these sold before. Do you know what the nomenclature is so I can look em up on a Ford parts site? If they're that cheap I may as well replace it.

This is the clip used on my truck. As I said it appears to be somewhat different from yours. I contacted sunrise ford about them and I'm sure you could do the same. I actually purchased them from my local dealer in the end.
